Blessed Birthday MOM, 29 June 1920 Slater, Wyo

For my MOM, the time slides by so fast. The hunt still goes on for answers that you asked.

Thought I should say you come from a lady declared a Saint.  She was also a Queen. She was born in Hungary and died as Queen of Scotland.

I learned our Ely line is really Italian, yes it is.

Haines is English and the line is long and varied.

Haven't heard from anyone going back to Germany again to knock on the Plantz Castle door.
Sure wish the first one hadn't bailed out and left before they opened the door.

Patience Tuttle's line goes back to early New England Tuttle's.
Morrow line does not appear to go back near as far. Still lost somewhere in Virginia.

Scott, is still lingering in Virginia and does connect with New England Scott line also.
Maybe two brothers landed different places, no idea at this point.  Lots of data implies
Thomas Scott's wife was a Payne.  Many still argue whether it was Lurana or Susanna yet.
One of those is the correct first name.

I know I shared with you that Elizabeth Higgins ancestors track us back to Pocahantus, as Grandad kept telling us. I bet when Grandad was young he may have been able to tell us more about this story since his Father shared the story with Grandma Inez when they married.

Stollar  was:  Hans van der Stoler
Direct ancestor (11 generations)
1617 - 1660

Direct ancestor (11 generations)
1617 - 1657

Haines also brought us Ridgeway   and  Allen.

A distant cousin sent me GGGrandfather Sanford Hoffman/Huffman's CW medal.

Jane Patterson was daughter of Joseph Patterson who became a Reverend after the Rev War and had three brothers in York Co. PA as near as I can learn and were also previously in NY. This is one of the links to Karen Phister who lived in Vallejo.

Duvall holds new information too.
Alexander DUVALL was born on 17 Aug 1710 in All Hallows Parish, Anne Arundel Co., MD. He was baptized on 25 Jul 1719 in All Hallows Parish, Anne Arundel Co., MD.
His father was, as listed below but we did not know of his status in the community.
Captain John DUVALL, married about 1686 to Elizabeth JONES. They had 11 children. One of the more important military officers of the Province. In 1704, he and his brother, Mareen the elder, were granted "Duvalls Delight", a patent of 3108 acres, located at the mouth of Rogues Harbor. It was one of the true manors in Anne Arundel County and is listed in Alice Norris Parran's "Register of Maryland Heraldic Families".

We learned that Massoit Duvall's wife was a Margaret Obin and that is a variant of D' Orbin which in the USA became Durbin.

Alexander Duvall 11 was a REV WAR veteran and has a DAR number and certificate. I think you knew that.

Alas MOM, no results on Elizabeth Richey.  Still asking questions.  Remembering she was the wife of Eli Duvall b 17 July 1790 Redstone Twp, Fayette Co. PA.  Elizabeth was born 10 April 1797  Fayette Co. PA  died 11 Jan 1872 East Millsboro, Fayette Co. PA.  or 1806 conflicting information.

Their children were: Eli, John, Caleb B. ,  Harrison,  Abigail,  Rachel,  Robert,  &  Eliza.
census implies a Virginia also.

Memories, Can be heart breaking.

Memories, Can Be Heart Breaking

Trying to see the bright side but not much bright is there.  Counting blessings is a good thing.

Those reading this are above ground and can see. Those reading this are maybe interested in History or Genealogy.

Memories can bring tears, fears, or joy.   A death, a birth and wedding or a funeral are all included in that bracket.

Glad that I can see the sky where the sun is setting.   Strange to see a blue sky with bright pink ribbons of clouds. Some clouds just a shade of light pink or even white. I love watching the sky that God made.

The smoke in our sky is making a smoggy beige tinge to the fringe of our sky line.  Worry for the people fighting the fires, fighting the floods.

Truly makes no sense that one spot is drowning in water and another is a wash in flames from the fires.

Remembering a ride on a swing, first time on a horse. The love of your dog you picked out as a child.
The love that dog gave you as you grew into maturity. There seems to be nothing quite like the love of an animal.

Amazing at how fickle one's family can be and yet remain family.  Well, who would have it any other way. It is called growing pains I think.

What I regret is the loss of community. Alas many city communities have lost the sense of community.  Where no matter who or what they all come together to share in the joy of a birth or the loss of a person.

The crime in the streets is much the repercussions of this loss. To busy doing one's own thing to realize what is going on around them.

I know a funny blog post but it has been a exciting, sad day.  My husband was part of a Memorial for a dear acquaintance.  His third one in ten days.  Seems it was my turn a few weeks ago now it is his.

So do you record them, or ignore them in your register of what is happening in your life.? ? ?

Amazed to learn we are also downline of Mr. Howland of the Mayflower

Today I was working on clearing some of the potential links in MyHeritage.com and Geni.com.

In the process, I learned we also are related to Mr. Howland of the Mayflower.

So my tally says Christopher Jones Jr, John Alden, Both Fullers, & Mr. Howland.

Wondering why and how this came about.  I know there are several other potentials.

O I know they only had so many people to interlink with.

Most people would be excited about all these finds. Yes, excited to learn it but embarrassed also.
When we studied history I did not like what I learned about the early Mayflower people.

They treated their fellow man worse than they were treated before leaving Europe.

I do not understand why or how they got to that level.

I am most thankful my JONES line went to RI and settled after getting their feet wet so to speak in Mass.  We had other lines probably that went with them. I have never actively tracked them all because of the  whippings and beatings and starving they did of their own people. Let alone the Witch Hunts.

Yes admiring their desire to make a better life, but I do not read it as a better life of how they treated their fellow man.

In a court records.  Teague Jones  Sr. was chastised, chained and beaten. Some years later he was pardoned and made a court person. Reading that judges manuscript was so exciting to learn there were people of good conscious.  Because his family was starving and no one helped he stole a loaf of bread to feed his children.  Some day maybe you can read the Judges statements. May God bless that Judge.

Knowing he wasn't the only one treated that way. I still shake my head in wonder as to what was going on in their brains.

Council minutes are very important for people to read when doing research because sometimes it can right a wrong that you are not aware of.  Just wish more Wills were kept or had been written.

John Adams is an Ancestor, also is Saint Margaret, Queen of Scotland

Suddenly our Scottish heritage is showing up.

A Medieval Ethnicity Map of Scotland | Scottish Origenes: scottish ancestry, scottish genealogy, scottish clan map

John Adams Scots Irish Immigration to North American Colonies

On the MyHeritage.com website is the linking of Mr Adams to our line.

Earlier I found we are direct descendant of Queen Margaret born in Hungary and died as Queen in Scotland.

Saint Margaret, Queen of Scotland - Notable Women Ancestors

Margaret was born around 1045 in Hungary, the daughter of the exiled English Prince Edward "the Outlaw" Atheling of the English royal house of Wessex, and a German Princess named Agatha.Margaret was raised in the court of St. Stephen, King of Hungary. In 1057 when she was about 12 ...

Amazing just amazing. God never ceases to amaze me.

IS this because I have met a terrific seeming young man named Michael from Scotland?

Very Important Message

With all that is happening around me right now I felt this was needed by many.

A distant cousin shared with me long ago.

Well worth reading as it has a message for each of us........

Hello Handsome my name is Rose
The first day of school our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn't already know. I stood up to look around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder.

I turned around to find a wrinkled, little old lady beaming up at me with a smile that lit up her entire being..

She said, 'Hi handsome. My name is Rose. I'm eighty-seven years old. Can I give you a hug?'

I laughed and enthusiastically responded, 'Of course you may!' and she gave me a giant squeeze..

'Why are you in college at such a young, innocent age?' I asked.

She jokingly replied, 'I'm here to meet a rich husband, get married, and have a couple of kids...'

'No seriously,' I asked. I was curious what may have motivated her to be taking on this challenge at her age.

'I always dreamed of having a college education and now I'm getting one!' she told me.

After class we walked to the student union building and shared a chocolate milkshake.

We became instant friends. Every day for the next three months we would leave class together and talk nonstop. I was always mesmerized listening to this 'time machine' as she shared her wisdom and experience with me..

Over the course of the year, Rose became a campus icon and she easily made friends wherever she went. She loved to dress up and she reveled in the attention bestowed upon her from the other students. She was living it up.

At the end of the semester we invited Rose to speak at our football banquet I'll never forget what she taught us. She was introduced and stepped up to the podium. As she began to deliver her prepared speech, she dropped her three by five cards on the floor.

Frustrated and a little embarrassed she leaned into the microphone and simply said, 'I'm sorry I'm so jittery. I gave up beer for Lent and this whiskey is killing me! I'll never get my speech back in order so let me just tell you what I know.'

As we laughed she cleared her throat and began, ' We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop playing.

There are only four secrets to staying young, being happy, and achieving success. You have to laugh and find humor every day. You've got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die.

We have so many people walking around who are dead and don't even know it!

There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up.

If you are nineteen years old and lie in bed for one full year and don't do one productive thing, you will turn twenty years old. If I am eighty-seven years old and stay in bed for a year and never do anything I will turn eighty-eight.

Anybody! Can grow older. That doesn't take any talent or ability. The idea is to grow up by always finding opportunity in change. Have no regrets.

The elderly usually don't have regrets for what we did, but rather for things we did not do. The only people who fear death are those with regrets..'

She concluded her speech by courageously singing 'The Rose.'

She challenged each of us to study the lyrics and live them out in our daily lives. At the year's end Rose finished the college degree she had begun all those months ago.

One week after graduation Rose died peacefully in her sleep.

Over two thousand college students attended her funeral in tribute to the wonderful woman who taught by example that it's never too late to be all you can possibly be.

When you finish reading this, please send this peaceful word of advice to your friends and family, they'll really enjoy it!

These words have been passed along in loving memory of ROSE.

REMEMBER, GROWING OLDER IS MANDATORY. GROWING UP IS OPTIONAL. We make a Living by what we get. We make a Life by what we give.

'Good friends are like stars ... You don't always see them, but you know they are always there.'

What Cheer, Iowa Information Found by Mary Pentico Nelson

What Cheer, Iowa Information Found by Mary Pentico Nelson

We took a trip to the Carlsbad Library Saturday to check out the new library arrangements and changes.  Mary was looking for family names, and I was looking for a Early Colonial Book.

Mary was hunting for NEUMANN, NANKE, JIPP and others.

She found a page that had pictures of her Grandparents on and other family members.  What a great find because I have seen so few pictures of Fred's family.

We met a JIPP cousin several years ago.  They live north in Oregon.

Cousin Richard Thomas sent us a picture of Granddad Pentico. I had never seen a picture of him nor had Fred. I was amazed at how much Fred looked like his Grandfather.  It is nice to see family resemblances passed down to younger generation.  Richard is the son of the only girl that Granddad and Grandmom Pentico had.

It seems that there was a 125 year anniversary July 1990.

More family names: Kitzmann, Draegert, Haupert, and many more to dig out.

Many came from Ranau, Germany about 1855.

Augusta Neumann born 26 April 1834 Posen, Germany came about 1855. Her husband came single several years earlier from Meckelnberg, Germany.

Martin and Rosena Neumann, came to What Cheer, Ia.  as the start of this family.

    JOHN HUGHES

John Hughes was born in Fayette County, Pa., March 13, 1785, where
he lived with his father and followed the occupation of a farmer. He
married Jane Fleniken, of Greene County, Pa., from which marriage resulted
    the following children:
Minerva, James F., William, John, Cephas, Robert, Cyrus, Alford, Jane and Helen.
His wife died July 23, 1835, and he was married again in June, 1836 to
Jane Boyd, of Greene County, Pa. The following were the children of his second
marriage: Samuel B., Mary Ann, Sarah A., Nancy, Lucretta, Josephus and Ellen.
Mr. Hughes was among the first settlers. He came to Wayne County in the
fall of 1816, and entered two quarters of land, the same now owned by
his son Alford Hughes, in Franklin Township. He also bought a quarter
second-handed, the one now owned by his heirs, and now occupied by his
son Samuel. In the year did some clearing and built his cabin, 18x25 feet,
then returned to Jefferson County, Pa., and in April of 1817 he brought
his family to Franklin Township, where he continued to reside until his
death, April 18, 1861. Mr. Hughes was in many respects a more than ordinarily
valuable citizen, and was possessed of considerable enterprise. He was
one of the early settlers of Franklin Township, serving as Justice of
    the Peace for many years.
