THANKFUL THURSDAY --- PENTICO- PENTYCOPE- BENNINGHOFF

THANKFUL THURSDAY ---  PENTICO- PENTYCOPE- BENNINGHOFF

Besides Thankful, it could be Thriller, Treasure Chest and Thrifty Thursday.

We are thankful for our friends, who come fix things, we are thankful for other genealogists whom find our blog and help us learn more about our kin.

Thrifty because it only cost time to put the blog together after the research had been done and sharing it with others.

Treasure Chest because the data  is new to us and will help move us to our final goal of whom they were and where they truly came from, with in a reasonable length of time.

Thriller because of all the twists and turns it has taken in 50 years to get this far and finally seeing the
results surface and become real. One document in Union Co. Pennsylvania, a census find in Jersey Shores, Pa in 1830. Remembering to do the George Schweitzer thing of expand the research by the 50 mile mark until you locate the lost.  Yes, George S. it worked again.

So grateful I was able to attend so many of the talks that George S. gave over the years to help us then floundering buddy genealogists.

A Those Places Thursday because without the place we would not have found the clues to make
the connections to tie up family lines.  Jersey Shores and Union County, Pa.

Yes, we have an  interesting family name. Yes, Pentico is in the Italian book of names.
It would be interesting to track this line farther back than Germany, some day and see if it was
Russian earlier or Italian, Penticoff - Penticuff implies a potential for that.  Some variants are: Bennihoff, Bennygoff, Pentico, Penticuff, Penticoff, & Penticope.

So one document led to another and then led to others digging into this line of many confluted spellings.  We even suspect Penticoast can be ours also. I will share the many spellings of this great family, later. First, I want to see how many may respond.

YDNA led us to adopted out children whom were kin.

This morning I received a note from someone in Union Co. PA with information and I am so looking forward to learning more about this family.

It would be awesome, if more of the kin ,answered this blog and shared some of their family information.  The Pentico Book is great but it starts off on a fallacy which we have proven. Truly believing the  33 letters she did not use because they did not agree with the other writers was probably more close to the true story.  Most of the things mentioned, happened but not when or where mentioned and by earlier generations of these ancestors.  We have been here since mid 1700's not 1820.

Do share you information and help us build a great resource for future generations.  Thanks.

Thankful Thursday- Friday's Family

Thankful Thursday - Friday's Family

Wednesday the mail man brought  me a package and Thursday I read it from cover to cover.

Amazed at how we can communicate and yet miss key items in each others conversations.

This applies to written and oral.

Learning now that more was known than was thought, but alas only known  to various members of the hunting team.  We all thought we swapped all our research data but somehow a couple of pieces here and there were missed.

Now found, it makes the picture more clear and progress has definitely been made.

The family of which we speak is the MOYER/MEYER/MYERS/MOHR family that married into the FOLK/FOULK family in Pennsylvania.

MEYER - 300+ YEARS IN AMERICA    Donald MOYER  Closson Press 1991

Having had many conversations with Donald Moyer regarding the families above.  I am hoping he was able to complete the other book he was working on.  Reaching 864 pages. He has the references just did not add all to the book due to length.

My family line has proof up to Philip but it runs into some twists.  First I learn that Philip's father is a Valentine which I think explains the confusion family has to some degree. Philip then had a Valentine whom had our John Myers.  Family Bible gives us this much.

We think, several of us, that the data written in Bible may have been entered at the time of John's death in Illinois. Bad time to write down facts they can get twisted at these times.

Since I learned that the first Valentine's wife's name was Margaret, (knickname for Margaret can be Betsey, my Mom's friend was Margaret and husband always called her Betsey). Explanation for why I think data right but backwards.
Valentine m Margaret  (2nd marriage) in America( He is only child listed for first wife Maria)

Can she be the Betsey Blessinger? in Bible.. er denotes marriage name Blessing.

Philip m (according to this account)
Maria Catherina UNRUH.  They are mentioned in Valentine UNRUH's Will.

Their 2nd child is Valentine MEYER  b 1762.  mar Catherine JONES d 1823 Dauphin Co. PA
First born son is John MOYER 4 Jan 1793  Tulpehocken Church, Jackson Twp. Lebanon Co. PA
First two children's birth dates do not match with our records. Thinking if they wrote data after John's death they may not have realized   Dad was that old.

Next puzzle is they say had { 1 boy and 6 girls.} Now that did not stop them from having other children and them dying small.  Which some of these Church records imply. If not this is not ours.

Yet we pick him up as the book shows down to ourselves.

This information is attached to Philip MYERS,  which is compatible with story told in McPherson also.

Phillip served in Rev War  more than once . First  helping father with supply wagons then as private and later buried (?) as LT. Philip Meyer 6th Battl PA Militia, Rev War found at Zion Lutheran and Reformed Church Cemetery, #89
Capt George Millers Co  of Berks Co Militia being on duty at South Amboy 5 Sept 1776 mustered out Dec1780. Stationed at the mouth of the RARITON River while the battle of Long Island  took place. He was at Trenton Xmas night, Valley Forge etc.   German Regiment of Continental Troops member
held 2 commissions the other one 1st LTin 1777 for Militia,8th Co.6th Battalion.
1799 built house near Womelsdorf Canal it burnt, rebuilt#17
furnished stones for original Zion Union Church of Womelsdorf

Remembering his father was also a Valentine if all this sourced data is  correct.  So this Philip and Valentine imply to be ours.

This younger Valentine did have a living brother and that  line is followed in this book. Samuel MOYER b 1806 d 1893. He was blind.

So is family lure off a bit, I suspect so, like the Penticoff/Benninghoff line story semi right but wrong generations.

We need to look at the finding of the 6 sisters. One I know was Elizabeth because her line lived next to John in Illinois at time of his death.

Bible if FACT says Philip M to Valentine M to John Myers. I have from John Myers to current proven solid.

John Myers did marry Sarah Elizabeth(Jane) FOULK (FOLK) b 28 July 1813 Perry Co. PA death 21 March 1860  Bible record but no where? Illinois or Iowa

Her parents were Peter Foulk Sr,( son of John FOLK, dcd 1793 Berks Co. PA) and Catherine
Catherine was of Indian lineage...  Skittigan Tribe derrivative of Mohawk tribe near as we can learn.

Last names mentioned have been OHLINGER, KIMMEL and others
She is buried Mt Zion Church Cemetery, Carroll Twp., Perry Co., PA, right behind the church.

Leonard Brown & Sarah Kimbrough Brown Descendants.

Leonard Brown b in Virginia d 19 Nov 1833 Sumner, Tenn  married Sarah Kimbrough b 1740   Louisa, VA  in Virginia, death 2 Aug 1824 Sumner, Tennessee. Marriage 1762 Orange, Virginia, age 22.

We have Will of Leonard Brown, Sumner Co. Tennessee and it lists the children.

Son Robert b 1774 Orange, North Carolina,  d 21 Nov 1849 Sumner, Tenn, married Lydia Harris. 15 Dec. 1795 Caswell, North Carolina.  She dies 1811 and is 41.

They had Jacob Cantrell Brown  b 1797 first born, whom marries Anna Tatum in Sumner Co. Tenn.  Marriage 1823.  He dies in 1884  in Iowa.

In Will of Ira Tatum is listed Anna Tatum Brown's husband and two of his brothers.
We are stuck on Anna Tatum, but after seeing this in the Will I suspect that Anna is a sibling to Ira Tatum.  Her birth was 1800.  Have marriage data.  16 Jan 1823 Sumner, Tenn.

They have  Robert Cantrell Brown 23  Sept. 1825 Sumner, Tenn.  He has two other siblings by Anna Tatum.  After that the mother has different name. Nancy Miller 2 Jan 1830 Wilson, Tennessee, marriage.

For what ever  reason, we find Jacob Cantrell Brown with a new wife by 1830.  Anna is gone dcd so we found by 1835. We thought he married after her death but it does not appear that way now.

Jacob and Anna Tatum Brown had  for their children.  Andrew Jackson Brown, 1824; Robert Cantrell Brown and Mary Ann Brown 1827.

Jacob Cantrell Brown and wife and children then move to Iowa.  They added 7 children to the family and lived in Iowa. Monroe Jasper Co. IA for death for both.

Robert Cantrell Brown having moved to Iowa meets and marries Sarah C. Hendricks whom was born in Simpson Co. KY. His death is 9 Dec 1903. Polk City, Polk, Iowa.

Robert and Sarah C Hendricks b 1825-1886 Brown had several children one was Rhoda Ann Brown.

Rhoda  Ann Brown marries Samuel Anthony CASPER b Ohio  25 Aug. 1849

Sarah Isabella  Casper daughter of  Rhoda & Samuel CASPER mar  Frank Andrew Pentico.
They had seven children living. Arthur  Pentico was second oldest son b 1907. My husband's father.

This is a tidbit of the husband's history. Frank was his Grandfather.
